As intrigues continue to play out in the politics of Ondo state, the former secretary to the state government Hon. Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde dropped a major bombshell hours after resigning.

In a report by Daily Trust, Abegunde alleged that the 2016 Ondo state governorship election was rigged in favour of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The former SSG revealed this while speaking on a radio programme, Crest 87.7 FM in Akure on Monday, July 6.

Abegunde opening up on how they allegedly rigged the poll back in 2016 said the Ondo state governor did not win as it was made possible for him.

While noting that they were the pillars behind Akeredolu, Abegunde said they will not be supporting him and he will lose.

Speaking on why he resigned, Abegunde said he did not want to be part of a government that made its subjects to pass through hardship any longer. He went on to allege that the governor is making the whole state suffer.

The former SSG added that salaries are not paid as and when due and the governor has not performed to the expectations of the people.

However, Governor Akeredolu in reaction to Abegunde’s allegations called for his arrest.

Recall that the administration of Governor Akeredolu was hit with a key resignation as the Secretary to the Ondo state government quit.

Abegunde resigned his appointment as the SSG on Monday morning, July 6. The Nation cited some sources as saying that the SSG who is popularly known as Abena resigned to contest as a deputy governor to one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in the state, Segun Abraham.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Akeredolu has recovered from COVID-19 after testing negative for the disease seven days after he was confirmed positive.

Akeredolu who disclosed this while speaking during a news briefing in Akure on Monday, July 6, confirmed that he received the all-clear after the results of his test came back negative, Nigerian Tribune reports.

He said: “After a few days in isolation, my samples were taken and tested again in accordance with the treatment protocols of COVID-19, the results came in a few minutes ago. I tested negative.”
