Oluwatoyin Ojaomo, the lawyer to the acting chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed the reasons why his client is being probed by a presidential panel.
Ojaomo speaking on a Channels TV programme, Politics Today on Monday, July 6, said one of the reasons his client was being investigated was because of the recoveries he announced publicly.
The lawyer added that Magu was also being questioned because the recovered funds remitted to the government were more than the monies declared.
Ojaomo however, pointed out that powerful corrupt people were using the media to tarnish the image of Magu.
He said the forces behind corruption in Nigeria are more powerful than COVID-19.
Ojaomo stated that instead of being celebrated for his contributions to the anti-corruption fight, corrupt forces were trying to bring down Magu.
In another news, the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Wednesday, July 1 declared that treasury looters in Nigeria were stranded and unable to access looted public funds following intensified anti-graft war waged by the commission.
Magu made the comment while receiving the National Association of Barbers and Cosmetology Employers of Nigeria (NABCEAN).
The EFCC boss said looters of public funds were stranded and unable to access looted funds as a result of restrictions placed on the accounts containing such funds.
He said the gap between the rich and the poor had shrunk as a result of the war against corruption.
His words: “They are stranded. They have a lot of money but they don’t know what to do with it. We will stop them. I will shave them dry.
“We don’t have a problem with any looters because we know we will get them.” He further said corruption was fiercely fighting back but added that no amount of blackmail will diminish his zeal in the fight against corruption.
He urged the group to mobilise to take ownership of the anti-graft campaign.
