The reelection bid of Godwin Obaseki has been handed a massive boost as hundreds of Action Democratic Party (ADP) members defected to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state.

It would be recalled that the Edo governor defected to PDP after falling down the pecking order of the political hierarchy of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Obaseki finally clinched the PDP guber ticket after a tough race highlighted by lawsuits and counter-lawsuits.

INEC, in a tweet on Tuesday, June 30, recognised the governor as the flagbearer of his party while also ratifying Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the APC candidate for the guber election to hold in September.

The electoral umpire announced that thirteen male candidates and one female will participate in the election amid ongoing preparation for the forthcoming poll.

Now, hundreds of ADP members have joined the train of Obaseki's teeming legion of supporters ahead of the state governorship election.

According to Vanguard, the ADP defectors are from Egor, Ovia Southwest and Ovia Northeast local government areas of the state.

The defection has now made the Edo state governorship election a two-horse race with Governor Obaseki and Pastor Ize-Iyamu, both familiar political foes, being highlights of the election.
