- The reconciliatory committees were inaugurated on Tuesday, June 30, by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe
- While Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger is to head the committee in Ondo, that of Edo is chaired by a former Senate president, Ken Nnamani
In a bid to reconcile all its aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming Ondo and Edo governorship elections, the All progressives Congress (APC) has set up reconciliatory committees.
The committees are to reunite leaders and members of the ruling party in both states as it prepares for the elections.
The chairman of the caretaker committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state inaugurated the groups on Tuesday, June 30.
The development was announced in a statement made available to Legit.ng and signed by Yekini Nabena, the deputy national publicity secretary of the party.
The head of the committee in Edo is a former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, with other members being Babatunde Raji Fashola, Fetus Keyamo, Tahir Mamman, Margaret Okadigbo, Sanusi Musa, Abdul-Rahman Kawu Sumaila.
For Ondo, the head of the new committee is the governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello. Other members of the committee are Senator Adamu Aliero, Senator Bamidele Opeyemi, Gambon Magaji, Jasper Azuwatalum, Hajiya Binta Muazu, Iquo Inyang and Shina Pellar.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that an end seemed to have come to the crisis rocking the APC as a factional former acting national chairman of the party, Victor Giadom, officially handed over to the chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Governor Buni.
The handing over ceremony was held on Monday, June 29, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Legit.ng gathered that Giadom in his remarks assured members of the committee of his readiness to support and work with the team towards the realisation of the party’s goals.
He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for rescuing the party.
Speaking during the handing over, Governor Buni appealed to aggrieved APC members with pending lawsuits to withdraw them.
He said: “I urge all party members to heed the appeal by our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), on his call to all aggrieved members who have instituted various cases in courts to please withdraw such cases in the interest of our great party.”
