Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from Ondo state has announced that he has tested positive for the coronavirus infection.
The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday, June 30, via a video shared on his official and verified Twitter account.
Akeredolu said as at the time of receiving his test result, he is asymptomatic and has since gone into self-isolation.
He called for prayers from the people of the state saying "your continued prayers over my well being are most appreciated".
"I had Malaria for a few days and was treated and did get over it. As at the time we had our party (APC) NEC meeting, my colleagues called on me. I spoke with one of them who feared that malaria should not be treated lightly and I should go-ahead to test for Covid-19," Akeredolu said.
"The result came out today, 30th June 2020. And I tested positive. But I am asymptomatic. I am not feeling sick in any way. My doctors have decided that I should take the normal treatment and self-isolate."
The governor assured the people of Ondo state that government work will continue as he will be taking control of the state affairs while in isolation.
Akeredolu further said in the next few days, he will undergo another test to know if there is a change in his Covid-19 status.
Ondo state has 276 cases of Covid-19 after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 32 new infections in the state on Monday, June 29.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that there is a renewed anxiety in Abia state over Okezie Ikpeazu's health with the governor still reportedly positive for the Covid-19 infection weeks after contracting it.
Ikpeazu tested positive for the deadly infection just as the NCDC reported 67 new cases of Covid-19 in Abia state on Sunday, June 7.
Emerging reports by Sahara Reporters, which this publication cannot authoritatively verify, claimed that despite tests carried out on him, the governor is still positive and has been moved to the intensive unit.
