- Sidney Sam is now of the opinion that he should have accepted to play for Super Eagles
- The 32-year-old snubbed the chance to play for Nigeria seven years ago under Keshi
- Sam decided to accept call up from Germany and was dropped from 2014 World Cup team
Former Germany international Sidney Sam has stated emphatically that he regretted his decision to have snubbed the Super Eagles of Nigeria for his country of birth Germany.
Seven years ago, Sidney Sam was a star in the German Bundesliga while playing for Bayer Leverkusen in which he was tagged as the next big star in Europe.
Many clubs were interested in him them simply because of his superb performances.
Sidney Sam has a Nigerian father and a German mother and had the right to play for any nation between these two.
Former Super Eagles gaffer Stephen Keshi tried his best to make Sidney Sam play for Nigeria, but the 32-year-old rejected the offers from his father's country.
He would have been a member of the Super Eagles team that won the 2013 African Nations Cup if he had agreed to play for Nigeria.
Having played for Germany in youth teams, Sidney Sam got a call up to the national team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and made the 32-man provisional list.
Sadly for him, he was dropped in the 23-man list that Germany took to Brazil for the global tournament.
“Looking back I can say I was close to winning the World Cup with Germany. Maybe I would have played in it if I had accepted the chance offered by Nigeria.
''My regret yes it is but in life when you make a decision you live with the consequences,'' Sidney Sam explained according to Brila.
