Manchester United release 9 players but will support them financially till August

- Manchester United will release Cameron Borthwick Jackson and other players whose contracts expire on June 30

- The club is however willing to financially support the released players until August

- Due to the delicate coronavirus situation, players under 19 will not be released

Manchester United have confirmed the release of nine players upon the expiry of their contracts.

The nine professionals, who mostly did not feature for the first team, will however receive financial support and extra training from the club if they are interested.

According to Sunsport, Demetri Mitchell, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Ethan Hamilton, Dion McGhee, Largie Ramazani, George Tanner, Aidan Barlow, Kieran O’Hara and Alex Fojticek are all set to depart when their contracts expire at the end of June.

The most notable name among the bunch is Borthwick Jackson, who made several first team appearances for United under Louis Van Gaal.

Man United is however not willing to release any player under the age of 19 because of the unique situation brought by the coronavirus pandemic.

The outgoing players will receive financial support from the club at least by the end of August as they seek new clubs.

“With some of the younger pros that are ending their contracts, we are putting packages in place so that when the season resumes they will come back for a few months with some financial support and a training programme to help them with the next stage of their career,” Head of academy Nick Cox said as quoted by Sunsport.

One player who is running out of a contract but United are keen to keep him is Angel Gomes.

Solskjaer failed to give an update on Gomes’ contract situation during the pre-match press conference against Sheffield United, although there are indications the 19-year old might have a future at Old Trafford.

"For me, I've not spoken to anyone last night or this morning," Solskjaer said.

"So the paperwork and the admin, the meetings that are going on, I can't update on that,” the Man United manager added.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that English Premier League champions Liverpool have stated that eight players including Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana will leave the club.

The departures of the long-standing duo have been confirmed by the club as a list of six other players that will now leave the Anfield side has been released.

Clyne joined the Reds from Southampton in 2015, while 32-year-old Lallana moved to the Reds in 2014 also from the Saints.
