- An attempt by Governor Fayemi to meet President Buhari on Tuesday, June 23, over Giadom reportedly failed
- Giadom, a suspended chieftain of APC, has been parading himself as the acting national chairman of the party
- Fayemi, who is said to have been opposed to Oshiomhole's leadership, reportedly took Giadom to Aso Villa to seek Buhari's consent on the proposed NEC meeting
A report by The Nation indicates that Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state on Tuesday, June 23, reportedly took a former deputy national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, to Aso Rock Villa in order to meet President Muhammadu Buhari.
The newspaper noted that the visit was to win Buhari over to Giadom, who has been laying claim to being acting national chairman of the party.
It was also gathered Fayemi wanted Giadom to see Buhari so as to get endorsement for the emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting he summoned.
The duo, however, couldn’t see Buhari despite spirited attempts.
The report also revealed that they only met his chief of staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, who insisted Buhari had closed for work.
Fayemi, who is chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), is said to be one of the anti-Oshiomhole's forces in the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that following his suspension as the national deputy secretary of the APC, the embattled self-acclaimed acting national chairman of the party, Giadom, has fired back at his critics.
It was reported that Giadom said on Monday, June 22, during a press conference that the only way out of the on-going leadership crisis in the party is a convocation of the National Executive Council (NEC).
Speaking with newsmen at the party's national secretariat, Abuja, the embattled APC leader said it was high time the party was handed over to higher organ since the lingering issues are beyond the National Working Committee (NWC).
In another report, the candidacy of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu got a major boost on Monday, June 22, after the governors elected on the platform of the APC declared support for Abiola Ajimobi-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
It was gathered that Giadom had declared the primary held in Edo state as illegal, claiming that he is the authentic acting national chairman of the party.
The governors' position was contained in a statement issued by Lukman in Abuja, on Monday, June 22.
The PGF boss maintained that members of the forum have been so concerned about the leadership crisis rocking the party, stressing the governors are all individually and collectively committed to the development of the party.
Explaining that governors are all working for the quick resolution of the challenges facing the party leadership, he, however, admitted that the approaches and perspectives of each progressive governor in solving the crisis may vary.
