Pep Guardiola: Man City boss fears Aguero could be out of season

- Pep Guardiola led Manchester City to a 5-0 trouncing of Burnley

- Sergio Aguero was replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the 45th minute after he was seen limping

- City boss is concerned that the Argentine could be out of action for the rest of the season

Pep Guardiola is concerned about Sergio Aguero after the Argentine was substituted after an injury during Manchester City’s 5-0 trouncing of Burnley.

Aguero was seen limping before he was taken off and it was gathered that the player has been managing a knee problem since he returned from the lockdown.

The player was tackled by the Burnley captain Ben Mee just before half time and he continued limping until he was substituted.

Aguero is billed to have series of tests on Tuesday and Guadriola has confirmed that the player will miss a couple of games, but the manager is worried that the problem could keep the 32-year-old out until the end of the season.

"It doesn’t look good. We will see tomorrow exactly what he has but it doesn't look good for the season," Guardiola said in his virtual post-match press conference.

"He was struggling the last month with a problem in his knee and now he felt something but it doesn’t look good.

"The doctor says it will take time. A few games [out] for sure but maybe tomorrow the tests he will get good news. We will see."

Manchester City showed their supremacy by humiliating their visitors Burnley 5-0 on Monday night, June 22, to reduce Liverpool’s lead at the summit to 20 points.

Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden netted a brace each, with David Silva also getting on the scoresheet.

With the victory, Pep Guardiola's men are now on 63 points from 30 games, thereby reducing Liverpool's lead to 20 points - although the Reds are still unassailable with just 8 games left to play.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that Lionel Messi is reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a possible fresh two year deal that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2023 season.

The Argentine is looking to extend his stay at the club, but Barcelona have vowed not to increase if current wages as he earns £1.15million-a-week.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are reporting that the Catalan club will not increase the player’s wages with the club also suffering the effect of the pandemic financially.
