The defection of the Ondo state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, to the PDP has been described as a boost for the party.

The PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, made the statement on Monday, June 22, when welcoming Ajayi to the party on from the APC, Premium Times reported.

Speaking at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, Secondus described Ajayi’s defection as a blessing for the PDP in the October 10 governorship election in the state.

He also asked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate police officers who reportedly prevented the deputy governor from moving his personal belongings out of the government house in Akure.

Meanwhile, there is an ongoing battle of ego and wits in Ondo state as aspirants running on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the idea to step down for the state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Legit.ng recalls that PDP aspirants including Banji Okunomo, Elder Eddy Olafeso, Eyitayo Jegede have picked the party’s nomination forms.

Ondo deputy governor Ajayi is reportedly trying to contest on the platform of the PDP.

According to the inside source, Ajayi has obtained the nomination form of the state main opposition party and he is expected to officially declare his interest ahead of the primary election.

The deputy governor has also been reaching out to top hierarchies of PDP in the state in a deal that will see other frontline aspirants peacefully bow out.

Permutations are similarly ongoing to pair Ajayi, who might have fallen down the pecking order with his boss, Eyitayo Jegede, another political strongman in Ondo state.

Should this work out, aspirants who have obtained interest and nomination forms may bury their ambition but there are indications that Ajayi may not have a quick soft land.

The deputy governor, through his media aide, had earlier positioned that there is no constitutional provision mandating him to resign before contesting.

Still on politics, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo state governor, declared that he has no plan to defect to another party to contest the governorship election because he is sure of victory both at the All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries and at the main elections.

The Nation reported that Akeredolu who dismissed allegations of having plan B in case he lost at the primary said residents in the state were aware of his achievements.

Legit.ng gathered that Akeredolu who spoke through his commissioner for information and orientation, Donald Ojogo, said he was not interested in the crisis rocking the Unity Forum of the party but would rather focus on the process of bringing everybody together.
