Three governors perceived to be championing the removal of Adams Oshiomhole on Monday, June 22, met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari over the internal unrest that has lately left the All Progressive Congress (APC) in hodge-podge.

The governors, who met with the president at the State House, are Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Simon Lalong of Plateau and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, The Nation reports.

They are believed to be drumming support for Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state who was seeking re-election under the ruling party before he later decamped to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after his disqualification.

The Kebbi governor also said that APC, despite the differing internal issues, believes in dialogue, hence the reason President Buhari has to be consulted because he "attaches sanctity to constitutionalism."

“The reason for our visit is to discuss with him as our party leader, as the leader that millions of Nigerians trust, to discuss party issues and the position of the Progressive Governors to support all steps to unify and bring about peaceful resolution in our party, the All Progressives Congress," Bagudu told journalists after the meeting.

Bagudu also noted that the APC is not a perfect assembly. He, however, said President Buhari has shown that he is a democrat who is not interested in breaking the ranks.
