Victor Giadom, factional national chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party has described his suspension as a fluke and weak.

Legit.ng recalls that the squabbles in the APC leadership ran into a sharp curve on Sunday, June 21, as Giadom was suspended by the Rivers state chapter of the ruling party.

Giadom who imposed himself as the chairman of the party after Adams Oshiomhole's suspension was upheld by an appeal court amid ranging crises in APC, was sanctioned over allegations of gross disobedience to the APC constitution.

Reacting to his suspension, the former deputy national secretary described the sanction as "ineffective and contemptuous."

Giadom, who spoke through his lawyer Oluwole Afolabi, insisted that the suspension is in contempt with a subsisting court order affirming him as the acting chairman of the ruling party.

“The law is trite that a member of a political party cannot be suspended from the party while he’s in court asserting a vested right as a member of the party,” Afolabi said.

“By attempting to suspend chief Giadom from the party, the characters involved are trying to force a fait accompli on the court and thereby tie the hands of the court."

APC had announced Abiola Ajimobi as the chairman of the party in an acting capacity. The party, however, declared Hillard Eta who is the south-south vice chairman of the party to stand in for Ajimobi who is “unavoidably absent.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a civil society organisation, Centre for Public Trust (CPT), has lamented that the current crisis in the ruling APC is a handiwork of organised centrifugal forces who are interested in capturing the presidency in 2023.

This was contained in a statement issued by the acting senior program officer of the group, Mr Simon Pam, titled: APC Crisis: The Hand of Esau and the Voice of Jacob.
