Chelsea’s quest for a top four position in the English Premier League was handed a big boost on Sunday evening, June 21 when the Blues defeated Aston Villa 2-1 away from home.
It was Chelsea’s first game since the 2019/2020 season was suspended mid-March due to the lockdown, but Frank Lampard’s men had to battle so hard for all three points.
It was all about the Blues in the first 20 minutes with Aston Villa barely touching the ball in the Chelsea half as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Willian continue to threaten.

Mason Mount had a great opportunity when he received the ball with his left foot and lets fly from 25 yards, forcing Orjan Nyland into his first save of the afternoon.
The Blues continued to search for the opener but they somehow could not find the back of the net and it was the hosts who took the lead two minutes before the end of the first half.
And against the run of play, the home side opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after Douglas Luis made a terrific cross to the back post and though goalkeeper Kepa kept out El Ghazi's first effort, Kortney Hause eventually turns it home to put his side 1-0 ahead.
On the hour mark, the Blues leveled after Pulisic struck when he was left unmarked in the danger area as he sliced the ball right under the Villa cross bar.
In less than 60 seconds, it was 2-1 in favour of Chelsea as Olivier Giroud received the ball in the box before his shot was deflected into the net.
Both teams tried so hard to score more goals but it was Aston Villa who came the closest to draw level but Lampard's men will return to the Stamford Bridge with all three points. It ended; Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea.
With the victory, Chelsea remain fourth on the EPL standings with 51 points and three behind third-placed Leicester City who have 54. Aston Villa on the other hand are 19th with 26points and are a point away from safety.
