Some All Progressives Congress (APC) bigwigs in Edo who are said to be loyalists to Governor Godwin Obaseki have said that they are planning on defecting to any party.
In fact, addressing journalists on Friday, June 19, Oshawo Stephen, the chairman of APC, Ward 10, Etsako West local government area said all the executive members will continue to retain their membership of the ruling party, Premium Times reports.
Stephen called on the public to disregard any report of defection by executive members to other parties in the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that things were truly moving smoothly for Governor Obaseki of Edo state who recently defected to the PDP.
The latest PDP catch was preparing himself for screening ahead of the much-talked-about governorship election, the same process that led to his disqualification in the APC.
According to Austin Akobundu, the PDP's national organising secretary, the screening exercise for Obaseki will be conducted on Saturday, June 20, in Abuja.
Akobundu said that the"committee is mandated to screen all aspirants for the upcoming 2020 governorship election in Edo.”
Also, the chairman of the APC in Edo, Anslem Ojezua, had rejected the Hope Uzodinma-led committee recently inaugurated up by Hilliard Eta.
Reacting to the creation of the committee by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, Ojezua said that this will not be accepted because it was done at a time when the party was dealing with a lot of controversies.
First, Ojezua noted that Victor Giadom was made the acting national chairman of the ruling party by court order.
The APC boss in Edo added that the NWC did not get the consent of the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) before setting up the committee.
He, therefore, went on to say that considering the situation, the Uzodinma-led committee cannot stand at the moment. His words: “In the light of the above, we have no option than to reject the Uzodinma-led committee.”
