The president of the eight Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki on his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Referring to Obaseki's choice as a step in the right direction, Saraki thanked PDP governors and the party's chapter in Edo at all levels for its unity and cooperation especially in welcoming the governor.
Moreover, in a statement by his media office made available to Legit.ng, Saraki noted that what is happening to Adams Oshiomhole now "is a moment of truth."
The former Senate president stated that the suspended All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman "is now about to meet his Waterloo."
Saraki added: “He has continued to use his mouth to divide his party and I believe there is a lesson for all politicians to learn from the fate of the suspended APC chairman.
"No autocrat can successfully pretend to be a Democrat. The true character of a man will come out one day.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, June 19, reacted to the recent defection of Governor Obaseki.
In a tweet, Atiku congratulated Governor Obaseki for making the right move of choosing the PDP as the platform for his re-election.
The former vice president of Nigeria boasted that the people of Edo stand to gain a lot from Obaseki's decision as he has joined a repositioned PDP that is set to deliver and promote good governance.
In another post, Legit.ng reported that the defection of Obaseki to PDP had been described as insignificant, according to the spokesperson of the APC.
The spokesperson of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said on Friday, June 19, that Obaseki’s move to the PDP was expected.
"It has not come to us as a surprise. We knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party which we have accepted," Issa-Onilu said.
