Kendrick Lamar is one of the most influential lyricists of his generation. The Compton-based star celebrated his 33rd birthday on Wednesday, June 17.

The rapper stepped on the hip-hop scene in 2004. At that time he was using the name K-dot. He released a couple of mixtapes as K-Dot before assuming his current moniker Kendrick Lamar in 2010 with one of his critically acclaimed mixtapes, Overly Dedicated.

This online free album peaked at number 72 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

1. Date and place of birth

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California, US.

2. First official studio album

Kendrick released his first official studio album Section.80 on July 2, 2011. It peaked at number 113 on the Billboard 200 chart and at number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart that highlights new and developing artists.

3. First major label release

The star's g.o.o.d kid m.A.A.d city album was his first official major label release and had some of his most timeless hits including Don’t Kill My Vibe, Swimming Pools (Drank), and Poetic Justice - featuring superstar rapper Drake.

4. Awards

The project g.o.o.d kid m.A.A.d city won Album of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2012. Apart from this award, Kendrick has won numerous other awards, including Lyricist of the Year.

5. Family

Kendrick and his fiancée, Whitney Alford, welcomed their baby girl on July 26, 2019. K-Dot and Whitney are high school sweethearts and have been engaged since April 2015.
