Edo election: Days after Obaseki's disqualification, APC NWC meets with Gambari in Aso Rock

- The NWC of APC is meeting with the chief of staff to the president, Ibrahim Gambari

- The meeting may not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the party in Edo state

- Governor Godwin Obaseki was on Friday, June 12, disqualified from participating in the party's primary.

Following the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state from contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party is currently meeting with Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, led the members of the NWC to the Aso Villa on Monday, June 15.

Legit.ng gathered that the meeting is taking place in the CoS’ office in State House, Abuja.

The newspaper noted that was sighted at the Villa with the party's national vice chairman (northwest), Inuwa Abdulkadir; the national treasurer, Adamu Panda and two others, adding that Oshiomhole was escorted to the meeting by a police orderly who had a pile of office files with him.

The party boss is dealing with the fallout from the party’s disqualification of Obaseki from participating in the state gubernatorial primaries.

The meeting is believed to be in connection with the crisis.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a factional camp of APC recommended that the Obaseki and two other party chieftains be expelled over alleged anti-party activities.

It was reported that the group which is loyal to the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, factional chairman of Edo APC Anselm Ojezua and organizing secretary, Aisosa Amadasun are guilty of anti-parties activities.

The Col David Imuse-led faction who recommended the expulsion, alleged anti-party activities would no longer be condoned.

In another report, the Ondo chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, June 15, said the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, was yet to purchase the party's nomination forms.

PDP explained that only six aspirants have bought its nomination and expression of interest forms.

Those who have paid for the forms have also collected a clearance certificate to confirm their intention to seek the party's mandate in order to be considered for election as a governorship candidate.

Aspirants of the PDP include Hon Bode Ayorinde, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, Hon Banji Ben Okunomo, Eyitayo Jegede, Prince Godday Erewa and Olorogun Eddy Olafeso.

However, the PDP in a statement explained that allegations that Ajayi has been considered as the candidate of the party was not true and urged everyone to disregard the reports.

The opposition went on to assure all the aspirants that the party would not disregard their long-standing efforts and does not intend to provide unfair advantages to anyone.
