According to the Nation’s SportingLife report, Awoniyi, who was in action for Nigeria against Sudan in AFCON U-23 qualifiers in 2019 noted that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp also played a huge part, on his current loan spell at German Bundesliga campaigners Mainz 05.
At the last count, since signing for Liverpool in 2015, Awoniyi has had sixth loan stints at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron (2) and KAA Gent.
However, ahead of the start of the 2019-20 campaign, Klopp, who was at Mainz for 18 years in different capacities has urged the former Golden Eaglets star he expects him to secure his British work permit in two years if he truly wants to be a part of the Premier League side.
