Timi Frank has called on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state to prevail on PDP leaders to accept Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state as their governorship candidate.
Frank who is a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said Obaseki remains the best option for the Peoples Democratic Party if it truly wants to take over Edo state, Daily Trust reports.
Legit.ng recalls that Governor Obaseki has been disqualified from the APC's primary by the ruling party's screening committee.
Frank urged Wike to make those against Obaseki's defection to see reasons why the Edo governor should be given a chance.
He warned that the PDP may lose the forthcoming governorship election if it refuses to accept Obaseki as its candidate.
Frank also advised Governor Obaseki to reach out to more PDP stakeholders to facilitate his acceptance by the opposition party.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Obaseki on Sunday, June 14, visited Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.
Wike who received the embattled governor at the Rivers state's Government House, Port Harcourt disclosed this in a tweet via his official Twitter handle.
Though sources say they have no knowledge of the details of the meeting, they, however, believe it is connected to the political survival of the governor.
Obaseki had been in disagreement with his former political godfather, Adams Oshiomhole who is also the national chairman of the APC, for some time now and this has technically culminated to his recent disqualification.
In another report, Governor Obaseki's media aide, Crusoe Osagie, has disclosed the reasons why his principal decided not to appeal his disqualification from the APC's primary.
According to Osagie, Obaseki's loyalty to the people of Edo state is one of the reasons why he decided not to appeal the decision.
Also, Nigerians on social media have expressed diverse views regarding the disqualification of Obaseki by the APC.
Fisayo Soyombo said: "Such an irony that it was on Democracy Day of all days that Godwin Obaseki's controversial disqualification from the gov primary was announced by the APC.
"To be sure, I couldn't care less about Obaseki or Oshiomhole. When politicians fight like this, it is NEVER about the people."
Radio Friend, tweeting @ogunmilorokenny, said: "Like Ambode Like Obaseki
"They both failed to understand the first law out of the 48 laws of powers “NEVER OUTSHINE YOUR MASTER” "Always make those above u feel comfortably superior.
"Make ur master appear brilliant than they are and u will attain d heights of power. #June12th"
