As the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state from participation in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primaries continues to generate diverse reactions from Nigerians at large, governors elected on the platform of the party say the APC will resolve its challenges.
According to the governors in a press statement signed by Abubakar Bagudu, Progressive Governors Forum chairman, the party will emerge stronger.
He also disclosed that the governors will work to ensure internal democracy in the selection of the party’s candidates for Edo and Ondo governorship elections, The Cable reports.
Meanwhile, Legi.ng had reported that much to the chagrin of his acclaimed political might and surprise of public onlookers who are following the twist and turn of political power show in Edo, Obaseki's towering ambition was cornered and brought down to drain by "the power by be" in the ruling party.
On Friday, June 12, Obaseki's hope of mounting the stool of power again was dashed as the All Progressive Party (APC) disqualified him from participating in the party's primary scheduled for Monday, June 22.
Obaseki had on Thursday, June 12, expressed fear that he might not get justice from the screening committee. In what later confirmed his panic, his disqualification from the race beckoned -- probably setting a new record in Nigeria's politics.
The chairman of the screening committee, Jonathan Ayuba, hinged his disqualification was on the fact that he was not fit to partake in the party's primary where the party will choose its standard-bearer for the upcoming governorship election in the state.
Among other reason, the screening committee said that Obaseki presented the Higher School Certificate (HSC) which the panel said was defective.
The committee also added that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate Obaseki presented did not have his name written properly.
But before the rift between him and his former political godfather became sour and more disordered, why was he not saved?
