There are just four points separating United in fifth and Tottenham in eighth ahead of the league resumption on Wednesday, June 17.
Wolves, Sheffield United and Arsenal are the other teams angling for a berth in Europe's elite club competition.
But even with the stiff competition, Ferdinand believes United stand a pole position of finishing among the top four teams and subsequently qualify for Champions League.
The former England international noted Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes could play an integral role in the Red Devils' push to seal a place in the Champions League.
"I reckon they should make the top four — with that squad they ought to. Paul Pogba is fit again, as is Marcus Rashford, there is talk Pogba is looking really good in training. He and Bruno Fernandes can form a productive midfield partnership," Rio told SunSport.
"Don’t forget United were on a good streak when the season was halted — and had just beaten Manchester City not long after winning at Chelsea. They haven’t lost in about 10 games and signs of Ole’s good management are coming to fruition now," he added.
