Some PDP members have vowed to resist any plan by Governor Godwin Obaseki to defect and contest the Edo governorship election on the platform of the party
Obaseki was recently disqualified by the APC from contesting the party's governorship primary election over alleged inconsistencies in his documents.
Obaseki is reportedly planning to defect to the PDP to fulfill his second term ambition, but reports indicate that some PDP members have vowed to resist any such move.
Vanguard newspaper stated that some governorship aspirants and executives of the party said they will resist the move by the governor to join.
According to the newspaper, one candidate said Obaseki was not a registered member of the party and should not be allowed to contest on its platform.
"So the whole thing doesn’t add up and I will resist it. I learnt he has met with the National Leadership of our party but we are waiting for him," he said.
Another party member reportedly referred to Obaseki as a rotten tomato that no one can buy.
"How can they be thinking of an aspirant who was disqualified by his party over issues that can be challenged in court? He said.
Leaders of the party in Edo state are expected to hold a meeting where a final decision on the matter will be reached.
Meanwhile, following the elimination of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election in Edo, another party has begun move to lure the embattled governor to its camp.
Reacting to the governor's disqualification, Action Democratic Party (ADP) said its doors are open to the governor should he decide to seek an alternative slot for his re-election bid.
ADP made the disclosure on Saturday, June 13, through its national secretaryAdelaja Adeoye, saying Obaseki will be welcome with open arm.
Adeoye said the party operates an open-door policy meaning Obseki will be accorded all the served respect as a governor and may even be given a waiver.
In another report, the ruling party, All Progressive Congress have been asked to apologise to the people of Edo state for disqualifying Governor Godwin Obaseki from partaking in its primary, by a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain.
Reacting to the elimination of the governor on Friday, June 12, by Jonathan Ayuba-led APC screening committee over alleged "defective certificate," Chief Dan Orbih berated the ruling party for playing politics with the disqualification of the Obaseki.
Legit.ng gathered that the former chairman of Edo state chapter of PDP made his position known in Benin, saying the ruling party has broken its front teeth with the decision.
