The ruling party, All Progressive Congress must apologise to the people of Edo state for disqualifying Governor Godwin Obaseki from partaking in its primary, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain has said.
Reacting to the elimination of the governor on Friday, June 12, by Jonathan Ayuba-led APC screening committee over alleged "defective certificate," Chief Dan Orbih berated the ruling party for playing politics with the disqualification of the Obaseki.
Legit.ng gathers that the former chairman of Edo state chapter of PDP made his position known in Benin, saying the ruling party has broken its front teeth with the decision.
Orbih said the rift between the governor and his former godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, should not have initially translated into what would get the governor disqualified.
According to him, APC as a matter of moral obligation must beg the people of the state for deceiving them with the governor's disqualification, Daily Trust reports.
“The APC owes it as a moral obligation to apologise to the people of Edo State for deceiving the people on the issue of the governor’s certificate.
For me, the fact is that the people of Edo have not only been deceived, but they have also been made to bear the brunt of the deficiency in governance on account of the distractions that the governor has been subjected to through the dispute with the national chairman," Orbih said.
APC primary will hold its Edo primary election on Monday, June 22, while PDP has scheduled its own for Tuesday, June 23.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that with the door seems totally shut for Godwin Obaseki following his elimination APC primary in Edo state, topmost hierarchies of PDP have set the wheel on a fast lane to woe the embattled governor.
Former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has been reported to have called the governor on Friday, June 12, asking him to join his party.
The former presidential candidate of the opposition party in the 2019 general elections, called the Edo governor and assured him of a soft landing which may come in form of a waiver.
