Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has stated that he would love to see former team-mate Lionel Messi play until age 70, adding that the Argentine star is the best player in the world.

Although Messi’s contract at Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2021, there is no indication he is planning to leave the club, but a new contract is yet to be agreed.

Eto’o is looking for Messi to stick around his current surroundings for some time more in a bid to break more records with the Catalunya team and create more history.

“Leo is the best player in the world and the best of all time. I'd always pick the team asking Messi who he wanted next to him, in his team,” Eto’o told Spanich outlet Marca.

“Every team in the world wants Messi. Then, you have to give him support. He can't run like a 25-year-old kid anymore, although he does sometimes.

“What we have to do as Barcelona fans is give him the best team in the world to keep enjoying him. He has to play until he's 70 so that we can enjoy him more.”

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has pointed out that Barcelona are making a big mistake in trying to sign another striker as a replacement for Luis Suarez, when the transfer window opens.

Wenger is convinced that the Uruguayan forward does not need replacing, but the La Liga club are desperate in bringing in a new striker.

The Catalan giants are heavily linked with a whopping £99million bid for Inter Milan frontman Lautaro Martinez who could be possibly replacing the former Liverpool striker who has struggled with injuries in recent times.
