Juanma Lillo: Man City confirm Spaniard as Guardiola's assistant

- Juanma Lillo is set to take over from Mikel Arteta at Manchester City

- Arteta left City to become Arsenal boss back in December 2019

- Lillo has had successful coaching stints with a number of clubs

Spanish coach Juanma Lillo has been confirmed as Pep Guardiola's No.2 at Manchester City.

Guardiola has been without an assistant since the departure of Mikel Arteta who left for Arsenal in December 2019.

Arteta coached City as an assistant for nearly three years, before he left for a sensational return to Arsenal to replace Unai Emery.

Guardiola has since been without a substantive assistant, with now the appointment of Lillo expected to fill the void.

Prior to his appointment, Lillo led Chinese side Qingdao Huanghai led to the Chinese League One title.

The 54-year-old has also had managerial stints with Oviedo, Tenerife, Zaragoza and Real Sociedad.

Away from managing clubs, the Spaniard coached Chile national team.

Interestingly, he previously managed Guardiola towards the end of the City manager's career as a player at Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa.

Speaking on joining City, Lillo said: "I am delighted to have joined Manchester City ’s coaching staff."

“It’s a pleasure to become a part of this group and I hope to make an important contribution to the club’s success going forward," he added.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Liverpool have been tipped to win this season's title with Supercomputer giving them the crown with three more loses for the Anfield landlords.
