- Two APC factions have emerged in Edo state with their respective chairman ahead of the party's primary slated for Monday, June 22
- The factions were said to belong to embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki and his former godfather Adams Oshiomhole
- Meanwhile, Oshiomhole has directed INEC and police to relocate the Edo APC secretariat to another location as crisis worsens
As the battle for the soul of Edo state intensifies among political players, All Progressive Congress (APC) crisis in the state took a dangerous circuit as two factions emerged ahead of the party's primary election.
The two factions, said to be loyal to the duo of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Adams Oshiomhole, have now been at loggerhead over the control of the party's secretariat.
Oshiomhole, APC national chairman, had directed a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), mandating the commission to relocate the state office from Airport Road, Benin City where David Imuse presides as Edo state APC chairman.
This, however, angered the chairman of another faction loyal to Governor Obaseki, Anslem Ojezua, who berated the party's national chairman for constituting illegality.
Ojezua said it is the duty of the state executive, according to the APC constitution, to determine where the party secretariat will be established.
The factional chairman vowed to seek a court pronouncement that will put a stop to the illegality ploy being played ahead of the primary election by Oshiomhole and his loyalists.
Meanwhile, Ojezua has hailed the clearance of Governor Obaseki of alleged certificate forgery by the management of the University of Ibadan (UI).
Legit.ng reported that Godwin Obaseki was confirmed as a graduate of the premier university by the authorities of the institution on Wednesday, June 10.
The registrar of the institution, Olubunmi Faluyi, in a statement, said Governor Obaseki gained admission to the university in 1976 and graduated in 1979.
Faluyi cited records and disclosed that the embattled governor graduated with a second class honour (lower division) in Classics.
