Retention of military chiefs is a disservice to Nigeria - Group tells Buhari

The GAC said: “All factions are inimical to unity and are hereby permanently disbanded and prohibited within the party.

“Party members should no longer make use of these factions or their names with regard to future party business and activities. To continue to hold meetings in the names of these groups or to continue to promote such associations will amount to a violation of this resolution.

“Any violation of this decision is subject to party discipline, including suspension and expulsion.”

According to the elders, preoccupation with factional in-fighting will give little room for collective party work and progressive governance.

The resolution on the ban was passed to the Lagos state APC executive committee, led by Alhaji Tunde Balogun, for implementation.

The GAC also mandated Balogun to promulgate detailed regulations with regard to prohibited and permissible activities for sub-groupings.

Prominent GAC members include National Leader of the APC; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Ex-Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and former Lagos APC state chairman; Otunba Henry Ajomale.

Edo 2020: What Oshiomhole allegedly told INEC APC about direct primary before NWC approval - Report reveals

As the APC in Lagos close ranks, the same cannot be said of their counterparts in Edo state.

A recent media report suggests there is a major division in the Edo state APC as the party gears up for the forthcoming governorship election.

According to the report, some APC chieftains in the camp of a governorship aspirant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu have switched support away from him.

Another aspirant, Honourable Osaro Obazee, is said to have benefitted from the move as the chieftains have reportedly switched to his camp.

Ize-Iyamu is the anointed candidate of the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole ahead of the governorship poll.
