All Progressive Congress can still win the 2020 governorship election in Edo state despite a festering internal crisis bedevilling the party, a poll has shown.
Edo APC chapter has been embroiled in the eyes of a storm following a power feud between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his former godfather Adams Oshiomhole over the control of the political structure of the state.
The crisis degenerated into a big mess with two warring parties interlocking in public spat towards the build-up to the state gubernatorial election scheduled for September.
Oshiomhole, APC national chairman, had approved a direct mode of primary for the election in Edo state.
This was vehemently rejected by Obaseki and his loyalist who posited that the ploy is an attempt to dash the re-election hope of the governor.
With the election taking a step closer, many political experts and critics have predicted the fall of the state from the ruling party.
They based their premises on the ground that with Oshiomhole vs Obaseki feud being a major highlight to the election of the state, APC may likely lose the control of the state to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Parrty (PDP).
Legit.ng poll has, however, shown that APC may cruise to victory in the state despite the internal unrest that has seen the party enmeshed in unresolved differences.
According to the poll conducted on Facebook, 55% of the 535 people who voted were of the opinion that APC will scale through the crisis and control the state for another four years. 45% thought otherwise.
The poll similarly suggested the same result on Twitter where 48.1% believed that the ruling party will win, 27.5% suggested otherwise while 20.2% showed indifference.
Meanwhile, there is an ongoing battle of ego and wits in Ondo state as aspirants running on the platform of PDP rejected the idea to step down for the state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.
Legit.ng recalls that PDP aspirants including Banji Okunomo, Elder Eddy Olafeso, Eyitayo Jegede have picked the party’s nomination forms.
Ondo deputy governor Ajayi is reportedly expected to resign this week in order to allow him to throw the hat into the ring against his boss Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
According to the inside source, Ajayi has obtained the nomination form of the state main opposition party and he is expected to officially declare his interest ahead of the primary election.
