Barely two weeks to the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s governorship primary in Edo state, the main opposition party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has extended an olive branch to Governor Godwin Obaseki and other aggrieved members of the ruling party.

Legit.ng reports that the PDP has expressed willingness to receive Obaseki, and all aggrieved members of the APC if they decide to join its fold.

This was made known on Monday, June 8, by the party's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, while speaking to journalists in Abuja.

The party, however, said all those who wish to join its fold should be prepared to subject themselves to the rules and regulations of the PDP.

Ologbodiyan also described as frivolous speculations that the party requested huge sums of money from Obaseki thus stalling his planned defection.

He said: “Under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus as the national chairman of the PDP, we do not negotiate slots. We don’t sell slots. It is clear, you can find out. It is strange and totally misplaced for anybody to make such allegation.

“I never sat in any meeting where such discussions allegedly took place. The allegation is totally unfounded and it is unacceptable to us as a party. I am aware that the PDP has aspirants in Edo and Ondo states.

He further explained that the PDP has a pool of eminently qualified members to contest the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that one of the PDP governorship aspirants, Kenneth Imasuagbon, said he was convinced of coasting to victory in September.

It was reported that Imasuagbon on Monday, June 8, said that God told him that he is the next governor of the state.

He stated that time and power belong to God but he has received a divine confirmation that he would be given the mantle of power in the state come September.

The frontline PDP aspirant also boasted that he has the backing of the people of Edo state to scale through the hurdles of primary and win the election.

Imasuagbon also claimed that no aspirants coming on the platform of the opposition party have his credentials and political acceptability.

He, however, said he would "shake and hug" whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the party in the primary and the election.
