The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, says at least 1,429 Boko Haram terrorists had been eliminated in the last two months that he relocated to the northeast.
The Nation reports that Buratai made this known after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Monday, June 8.
Legit.ng gathers that the Army chief added that some 116 informants, spies and logistics couriers working with the terrorists had also been arrested within the same period.
Buratai said the Nigerian Army has performed tremendously well, adding that the successes recorded were also due to the joint efforts of sister security agencies.
He gave the assurance that things will continue to improve as the days go by, noting that he would soon return to the northeast to join the troops.
According to Buratai, President Buhari was pleased with the performance of the country’s military.
“We will continue to deal with the situation, not only in the North-East but all other parts of the country. Tremendous success has been achieved and we are very happy with what is going on,” he said.
Buratai also noted that his presence in the Theatre of War had seriously boosted the morale of the troops in the trenches.
He assured Nigerians that the army and other sister security agencies will continue to tackle any form of insecurity in the country.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Buratai and the troops on the frontlines had received a commendation for liquidating top Boko Haram/ ISWAP commanders and 72 fighters in Borno state.
The commendation was given to the troops and the army chief by the National Democratic Front (NDF).
Showering praises on the COAS for, once again leading troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to another victorious outing against the terrorists, the pro-democratic group said, the current feat complements the gains made by the military in the last three months.
