Nigerians react to Atiku's comment on fuel subsidy, price-fixing removal

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar is currently trending on the microblogging platform, Twitter, after he made a comment about the federal government removing fuel subsidy.
According to the report, the cap on the price of petrol had been removed, and henceforth, the price would be determined by market forces.
Reacting to the report, Atiku said this is one of the things Nigerians have been clamouring for.
He said though it should have come earlier when the economy was stronger, the stoppage of subsidy and price-fixing is a right move.

Atiku did not expect what came next as Nigerians dragged him on social media, reminding him how he was in power as vice president for eight years and also part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which ruled the nation for 16 years.

Most Nigerians already have an opinion about politicians as they are very good at talking and sharing the best solutions when they are out of power.
Replying to Atiku, @Popesixtus2 wrote: "If you're there nothing will still happen, most of you keep talking when you are not there but you are there you become mute and less concerned."
According to @MarcLexy, Atiku has agreed that the PDP and himself stole money from Nigeria via fuel subsidy.
Atiku was reminded of his comment about selling NNPC to his family and friends.
Grace John is concerned about how marketers will take advantage of the situation and increase the price of fuel.
Someone said he just scored own goal while another advised the former vice president to quit dishing advice.
@KenechiMbanugo also reminded him how he was part of the government that started the subsidy regime and did not build new refineries, while also making sure old refineries never really worked.
Another social media commenter said Atiku had no right to talk. He said all Nigerian politicians are "birds of same feather".

Some other Nigerians were of the opinion that Atiku just wants to take the glory for something he had no hand in.
Recall that the petrol pump price was recently reduced from N123.50 to N121.50 per litre. This was announced by the federal government on May 31.
