The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed a report that 10,000 members of the party defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state.

Vanguard reports that the party's state publicity secretary in Kwara, Tajudeen Aro, said in a statement on Friday, June 5, in Ilorin that "the recent garrulous and spurious rumour of 10,000 defectors from the APC to PDP is nothing but a mirage.”

Legit.ng gathered that Aro said the claim by the PDP is of doubtful success, laughable and a terrible absurdity as it would have been impossible to assemble 10,000 people in any location at this period of the coronavirus pandemic without the attention of the public.

“More importantly, the leader of the supposed decamped members is too insignificant to cause any discomfort for the APC or buoy the image of the PDP,” Aro said.

A Twitter handle claiming to represent the media arm of the APC in Kwara, however, confirmed the defection but Legit.ng could not verify the authenticity of the account as at press time

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the APC in Kwara state suffered a huge setback on Thursday, June 4, when 10,000 members defected to the PDP.

The defectors were reportedly led by their coordinator, Manzuma Abdulmalik Kawudogo, who said the crisis among APC leaders and members in the state prompted them to defect.

In another report, APC in Oyo state threw fight hat into the ring with Seyi Makinde-led government and accused the governor of hijacking projects executed by his predecessor.
