Governor Yahaya Bello has given orders to security agencies in Kogi to go after the criminals who participated in the bank robbery and attack on a police station on Thursday, May 4 at Isanlu.
The attack led to the death of several people including police personnel on duty at the time of the incident.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Onogwu Muhammed, Governor Bello described the incident as unacceptable, dastardly and cowardly
He implored the security agencies in the state to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.
He charged residents of Kogi to readily assist the security operatives, in their own way, by providing useful information to help combat crime in the state.
He said the state’s hospitality should not be taken as a gateway for criminal elements, assuring the people that government will protect them from the hands of criminals.
Part of the statement read: “Our open arms is no invitation to criminals. Our first responsibility as a government is to ensure the security of lives and property in the state.
“Bank robbery was a recurring decimal in Kogi state before the current administration. Together with all security agencies in the state, we ended the regime of this form of crime since 2017.
“We will not allow this to reverse the gains we have recorded in protecting the lives and property of our people.”
The governor has also directed security agents to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.
Recall that eight police officers were killed during the attack.
Eyewitnesses say when the gunmen stormed the town, they killed the DPO, two policewomen, and four other police officers.
After the attack on the police station, the robbers were said to have proceeded to the bank premises where one policeman was killed and another male victim died when a stray bullet hit him.
