A high court sitting in Benin, the capital of Edo state, has fixed June 17, to hear the suit seeking to disqualify a leading Edo governorship aspirant, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, from participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

TheCable reports that the primary election to elect the APC governorship candidate for the September poll is scheduled to hold on June 22.

Legit.ng gathered that the presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje, announced the date on Thursday, June 4, while adjourning the case instituted by Benjamin Oghumu, the APC chairman in Ohrionmwon local government area of Edo.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Godwin Obaseki was in a running battle with his supposed godfather and national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

It was reported that the battle got to its crescendo when a faction of APC loyal to Obaseki in Edo suspended Oshiomhole at ward level and later got a court injunction which barred the former governor of Edo from parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

The court's pronouncement hit the camp of Oshiomhole while Obaseki's camp thought that it has broken the camel's back.

Some APC governors and some members of the National Working Committee of APC who were tired of Oshiomhole's leadership style, aligned with Obaseki and called for Oshiomhole's resignation to avoid being butted out of office.
