Many parts of the world have been rocked by protests championing the lives and rights of blacks in a hostile society.

It all started when a black man, George Floyd, was held down by a white police officer’s knee despite his cries for help and he eventually died as a result.

The video made the rounds on social media and it sparked massive outrage as people went out in large numbers to protest the injustice done to people just because of the colour of their skin.

Present at the protest was British actor, John Boyega. The Star Wars actor gave a moving speech at Hyde Park in London during the protest and cameras caught moments when the actor broke down in tears of frustration.

Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, took to social media via her Instagram page to console the actor.

Chimamanda said that watching the actor during the protest broke her heart as she sent him her love. She also said that what John did was necessary even though it came at an emotional cost.

She said: “Watching John Boyega speak at the protest in Hyde Park, it broke my heart, made me cry. I’m sending love to you John. I hope that you’re surrounded by love because I think what you’re doing is necessary and very important but it also comes at a cost emotionally. So I’m sending you all my love and admiration and pride.

And so many young black people out there who are dealt with so much cr*ap overtime and they’re out there doing their thing and it’s so admirable. It’s so admirable to see them taking up space.”

In her caption, she wrote: “The air is thick with grief. But there’s also reason for cautious hope, maybe this time is different, maybe. @johnboyega”.

John did not only mention George Floyd's case, he listed many others who suffered under the same racial inequality which led to them losing their lives.
