The political landscape in Edo state has continued to deteriorate due to the ambitions of many of the gladiators. This is evidenced by another development in which one of the aspirants who consented to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu's emergence as a consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused him of betrayal.

Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi who alongside Dr. Pius Odubu; General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd); Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, Hon. Saturday Iuwuilekhue, Prof. Frederick Amadasu, and Solomon Edebiri stepped down for Ize-Iyamu said the aspirants were betrayed.

As a result of this two of them – Ogiemwonyi and Odubu – have now obtained the governorship nomination forms.

According to him, Ize-Iyamu betrayed the aspirants as he went to support another person to join the race. He said at the mock primaries of the aspirants that produced Ize-Iyamu, he (Ogiemwonyi) came second, while Odubu came third. He posited that if the coast was not clear for Ize-Iyamu, he was next to be considered and not another person, New Telegraph reports.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that in the last few months, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has been in a running battle with his supposed godfather and national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

The battle got to its crescendo when a faction of APC loyal to Obaseki in Edo suspended Oshiomhole at ward level and later got a court injunction which barred the former governor of Edo from parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

The court's pronouncement hit the camp of Oshiomhole while Obaseki's camp thought that it has broken the camel's back.

Some APC governors and some members of the National Working Committee of APC who were tired of Oshiomhole's leadership style, aligned with Obaseki and called for Oshiomhole's resignation to avoid being butted out of office.

Oshiomhole later threw in the towel and stepped aside to allow an independent investigation over the allegation leveled against him. At that period, Obaseki thought he had won the battle and that getting the party's ticket to seek re-election in office would be an easy ride.
