As Nigeria battles security challenges, another tragedy has struck in Kaduna state which led to the death of not less than nine people and several others injured following an attack by gunmen who invaded Tudu village.
In a report by Sahara Reporters, the unfortunate attack which is yet to be confirmed by the Kaduna state police happened early in the morning on Wednesday, June 3, in Kajuru local government area of the state.
However, Cafra Caino, the Kajuru local government chairman, confirming the attack on the village said nine people lost their lives and that more casualties were prevented as a result of the quick intervention of security operatives.
The newspaper reports that a source from the community narrating what happened said gunmen stormed the community around 5am and started shooting as people scampered for safety.
The mother of a three-year-old girl identified as Elizabeth, one of the injured victims narrating what happened said: "I just came from Doka, I am the mother of Elizabeth Samaila. The herdsmen started attacking around 5am today, they hacked my daughter."
In a statement sent to journalists on Friday, May 29, and signed by his press secretary, Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, the minister sent his condolences to the affected communities, the Sokoto government, people of the state and families of the victims.
He, however, assured the people of the state that the federal government remains committed to the ongoing security operation in the northwest, aimed at decimating all forms of criminalities in the region to emplace enduring peace, safety and security of lives and property.
The Nigerian president gave the order on Thursday, May 28, in a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu.
Buhari described the recent attacks by bandits in the Sabon Birni local government area (LGA) of Sokoto state as tragic and unfortunate.
“We will not abandon you to your fate because we are determined to bring these mass murderers to their knees and crush them totally,” the president said.
