A few months ago, Waka singer, Salawa Abeni, took to social media to call for the help of Nigerians after she was being blackmailed by someone who threatened to release her private photos if she did not pay some money.

The singer shared the damning photos by herself on her Instagram page and the culprit was eventually arrested.

Speaking on being a victim of blackmail, Salawa Abeni took to social media to thank Nigerians and the police for their efforts in arresting the criminal as she said that she was not his first victim.

She wrote: “I just want to use this opportunity to thank Nigerians all over the world, the Nigerian Police Force RRS for helping to catch this boy as I am not his first victim.

I am extremely grateful for all the love, concern and support shown despite everything that is going in our daily lives. Modupe o! God bless you all."

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the Rapid Response team of the Police Force arrested the person behind the attempted blackmail of the music icon over her nude photographs.

The 19-year-old suspect identified as Olufowoke Oladunjoye Emmanuel, in his confession to the police, admitted to being behind the blackmail and stated he acted alone.

According to a police report, Emmanuel who is a resident of Peace Estate in Magboro, Ogun state, was picked up by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad on May 28.

The 2017/2018 electrical engineering student of Yabatech claimed he discovered the photos on a memory card which he picked up on the floor in his school in November 2019.

He then downloaded the photos and sent some to her using her phone number he obtained from her Instagram bio.

However, his attempt of blackmail failed when Abeni took to social media to report the blackmail, stating that someone wanted to tarnish her image.
