Ondo state records three new coronavirus cases

- Three new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Ondo state

- Two patients out of the new cases have now lost their lives

- However, one of the patients is being treated in Akure

Ondo state has recorded three new cases of the novel coronavirus disease.

This was disclosed in a tweet by the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Monday, June 1.

The governor also revealed that two of the new cases died this morning while one is being treated in Akure.

"Today, we recorded three new cases and an unprecedented number of deaths from #COVID19Nigeria in Ondo State. Two of the new cases passed on at UNIMED in Ondo town this morning. The third case is currently at the IDH in Akure undergoing treatment," he wrote in the tweet.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Ondo state government on Monday morning, May 11, officially announced the first casualty from coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Wahab Adegbenro, the state commissioner for health, made the confirmation.

Prior to the tragic development, about twenty-five (25) almajiris driven into Ondo by a truck driver were on Monday, May 4, turned back.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu first raised the alarm of almajiris pouring in from northern states while giving an update on the government's efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

He lamented over the entry points into Ondo state which is manned by security agencies in line with the restriction of movement order.

In a related report, not less than eleven travellers coming from Sokoto state en route Akure were intercepted with four out of them testing positive to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Taiwo Ladipo, Oyo state's incident manager, on Tuesday, May 5, disclosed that the travellers were intercepted by Oyo state police command at the weekend.

He further stated that the confirmed cases have been held in isolation at the Infectious Diseases Centre, Olodo.

In another development, Legit.ng reported that by the directive of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) M.A Adamu, some female officers of the force have started the distribution of palliatives in Abuja communities.

The initiative by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) tagged Community Sensitization Campaign and Palliative Support Program against COVID-19 is aimed at assisting poor homes within the policing communities following the lockdown imposed because of coronavirus.

Assigned tp champion this noble and philanthropic course is CP (Dr) Aisha Abubakar who is currently the commissioner of police in charge of the Force Animal Branch.

As part of her duties in this scheme, Aisha alongside her team is expected to visit local communities in all Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
