Philip Billing: Rohr claims Bournemouth midfielder wanted to play for Nigeria

Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has rubbished claims made by Bournemouth star Philip Billing that he called him for the possibility of playing for the three-time African champions.

While speaking with ESPN, Gernot Rohr made it clear that he never called Philip Billing stressing that it was his agent who first established talks with him about his client.

Gernot Rohr explained that Philip Billing's agent contacted him that the player would love to switch to Nigeria since he has not gotten the chance to play for Denmark national team.

This has however countered the statement Philip Billing made recently where he claimed that he is not ready to play for Nigeria.

"Billing's agent called me and he said that he is interested to come to Nigeria because he is not playing so much in Denmark.

"So he wanted me to call Billing. I said I don't have his number, so he gave me his number. When I called Billing, he asked me some questions about the Nigerian team.

"And he said, 'I am very, very interested to come with you, but give me some time,'' Rohr told ESPN.

Gernot Rohr also explained that he will never beg any player to play for Super Eagles adding that his doors is open to only those who wants to represent Nigeria.

There were rumors that the NFF were considering Harry Redknapp taking over from Gernot Rohr before the German signed another deal to continue.

Earlier, had reported how Gernot Rohr explained that he would love to have Bayern Munich star Joshua Zirkzee in his squad stressing that it will be difficult to convince the youngster.

This declaration comes after the German signed a new two-year deal with the Super Eagles in which he has been given the mandate to deliver by the Nigeria Football Federation who are his employers.

Joshua Zirkzee is of Nigerian descent, and the 19-year-old forward has already played for Holland at the Youth level.

While speaking with Colin Udoh on Instagram live video, Rohr explained that Joshua Zirkzee is one of the best forwards in the world considering his styles of play.
