Obaseki has been having disagreements with the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, over the second term ambition of the governor.

Fresh plots as 9 governors meet Tinubu, strike deal as they want Akeredolu, Obaseki returned without stress

A source who confirmed the meeting said the governors were led by Governor Atiku Gbagudu of Kebbi state, who is the chairman of the progressives governors’ forum.

Meanwhile, with less than four months into the governorship election in Edo, the rancour in the APC chapter of the state seems to be growing in wings more than imagined.

Speaking on Channels TV on Wednesday, May 27, after hitting the re-election bid of the incumbent governor on the first rock with his victory in Abuja, Ize-Iyamu said the rift between Obaseki and Oshiomhole is a personal feud.

He further maintained that Oshiomhole, however, remains the national president of APC and his personal feud with the incumbent governor does not change the reality and the respect accorded to his office.

Ize-Iyamu, who lost to Obaseki in the 2016 guber election in Edo, also berated the governor for saying power belongs to God after insisting that his second term is non-negotiable.

In another report, the consensus candidature of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC may have hit a brick wall as chairmen of the party in Edo state said he did not meet the conditions for a waiver granted to him by some members of the NWC.

The chairmen from the 18 local government said Ize-Iyamu as the consensus candidate would not stand as he was not a member of the party.

The APC chairmen led by Ben Oghomu, on Thursday, May 28, at the state party secretariat in Benin, described Ize-Iyamu’s consensus candidature in Abuja on Tuesday, May 26, as null, void and of no effect.

They went on to note that the conditions for waiver prescribed by the party’s constitution have not been met, adding that Ize-Iyamu is not a member of APC.

Meanwhile, following the adoption of Osagie Ize-Iyamu as a consensus candidate by some governorship aspirants of APC in Edo state ahead of the party primaries on June 22, the development may have pitched the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole against strong political dynasty in the state – Igbinedions.

Vanguard reports that sources in the PDP and APC affirmed on Friday, May 29, said Igbinedion remained in the PDP and was even working quietly in the background to facilitate the emergence of Obaseki as the PDP candidate should he was shoved aside by Oshiomhole in the APC.
