The governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, has laughed off claims that he is afraid of losing his return ticket if the All Progressives Congress (APC's) choice of primaries is direct mode ahead of the October Ondo election.

“It’s laughable and that is unfortunate. You can’t put something on nothing. What is the basis for their clamour for direct primary?" the governor queried.

The Nation reports that Akeredolu dismissed the challenge posed by about 15 governorship aspirants who have agreed that a direct primary was best for them to topple the incumbent governor.

According to Akeredolu, the arithmetic of politics was more than their imagination and he was better prepared for the direct primaries than them.

“For those who clamour for direct primary, the message to them is that Governor Akeredolu is more prepared for any mode of primary than those who clamour for direct."

Speaking through his commissioner for information, Donald Ojogo, Akeredolu said he had no need to be scared of those working together against his return to office because they are on the wrong part.

“Why must you be scared of a group of people with contradictory interests? What they have seen in the governorship aspiration is merchandize," he said.
