Nigeria’s former senator who represented Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, has shared details of how he escaped an assassination attempt.
The former lawmaker on Sunday, May 31, announced on his Twitter account @dino_melaye that he escaped an assassination attack at Kogi state polytechnic.
He tweeted: "God i thank you for this day. This was the day assains attempted my life in front of Kogi State Polytechnic. Instead of killing me the ring leader Saka died. God is a good God. Oluwa seun. Chineke edima...na gode Ubangijin dunia. SDM."
Melaye is no stranger when it comes to attempts been made on his life, back in 2017 he survived an assassination attempt as his cars were riddled with bullet holes.
He was attacked in his residence at Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area of Kogi state past midnight.
It would be recalled that in 2019, the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi state alleged that there was a plot to assassinate Melaye.
In a statement by the state spokesman of the party, Usman Okai, on Monday, February 11, 2019, the party said the plan was to invade Melaye's home in an attempt to assassinate him.
Okai stated that no amount of intimidation would change the minds of the peoples’ rejection of the APC-led administration and for all its candidates in the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Melaye has dabbled into the face-off between the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Kogi government over the Covid-19 free status of the state.
The Governor Yahaya Bello-led government on Wednesday, May 27, had insisted that the north-central state was still free of coronavirus scourge despite fresh discovery. The state's utter denial coincided with the report by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announcing two cases in the state.
Reacting to the development, Melaye who represented Kogi during the 8th National Assembly said the Covid-19 cases in Kogi as announced by NCDC is real. In a press statement released on Saturday, May 30, the former lawmaker stated that one of the cases is personally known.
