The consensus candidature of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC may have hit a brick wall as chairmen of the party in Edo state said he did not meet the conditions for a waiver granted to him by some members of the NWC.

The chairmen from the 18 local government said Ize-Iyamu as the consensus candidate would not stand as he was not a member of the party.

The APC chairmen led by Ben Oghomu, on Thursday, May 28, at the state party secretariat in Benin, described Ize-Iyamu’s consensus candidature in Abuja on Tuesday, May 26, as null, void and of no effect.

They went on to note that the conditions for waiver prescribed by the party’s constitution have not been met, adding that Ize-Iyamu is not a member of APC.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the re-election bid of Governor Obaseki may have hit a rock as Ize-Iyamu emerged the party's consensus candidate for the next gubernatorial election in the state.

Ize-Iyamu, a former secretary to Edo state government, emerged the candidate of the party on the night of Tuesday, May 26, in Abuja through a consensus arrangement.

Similarly, the governorship aspirant said that he is yet to receive the endorsement from some key party chieftains as alleged in some quarters.

He said the trio of the APC national chairman Adams Oshiomhole, national leader Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari have not endorsed him to contest the election.

After hitting the re-election bid of the incumbent governor the first rock with his victory in Abuja, Ize-Iyamu said the rift between Obaseki and Oshiomhole is a personal feud.

He further maintained that Oshiomhole, however, remains the national president of APC and his personal feud with the incumbent governor does not change the reality and the respect accorded to his office.
