COVID-19: NDDC shuts down headquarters as top director dies

The head office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt has been shut after the reported death of its executive director of finance and administration, Ibanga Etang on Thursday, May 28.
The commission in a memo on Thursday informed staff that the head office was going to be shut for two weeks, The Cable reports.

"I am directed to inform all staff that management has approved that the commission be shut down for two weeks from today 28 May 2020," Silas Anyawu, who signed the memo on behalf of the management wrote.
The memo asked the staff of the agency to switch off all electric appliances before vacating the premises.
The workers at the head office were also advised to go into self-isolation for two weeks pending when they get a further directive
Though no tests have been conducted on the late NDDC executive director, there are fears that his death might have been linked to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian with the name, Olubunmi Adefisayo, a Covid-19 survivor, has shared his experience with the deadly disease.
He said it all started when he started feeling the symptoms of the virus first week of April, noticing that he had lost all sense of taste and smell
A check online confirmed his fears and he had to quickly call the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for proper testing. His result came back positive two days after.
Olubunmi said that throughout the waiting period, he was filled with heavy tension. His symptoms were not grave as he was taken to the isolation centre in Yaba, Nigeria Health Watch reports.
In another report, the federal government said it was yet to receive the ventilators promised by the US President, Donald Trump.
The Nation reports that the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, assured Nigerians that once the government receives the promised equipment, it would be made public.
