- Rohr led the country's national team to win bronze in Egypt last year

Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that Gernot Rohr has signed a contract extension to remain as the Super Eagles coach.

The German-born tactician took charge of the country's national team in 2016 and has made tremendous progress with the squad.

He led them to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship where they won bronze medal.

However, the relationship between the two parties fell apart after their glorious outing in Egypt last summer.

"I'm happy to announce that the @thenff and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles," Amaju Pinnick Tweeted.

"We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.

He added: "We can now focus on qualifying for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup. In truth, these are sacrosanct and Coach Rohr is aware of these conditions.

"Like the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development has rightly noted; we are uncompromising in these goals.

Pinnick continued: "The board of the Federation & I are totally in agreement with the minister on the goals for the team and it is unwavering.

Legit.ng earlier reported that ex-Nigerian star Finidi George has stated that he was not aware some players had ladies in their rooms prior to their second-round loss to Denmark at the 1998 World Cup in France.

Legendary Super Eagles defender Taribo West earlier claimed that some of his teammates had sneaked women into their hotel rooms before that game.

Recall that Nigeria stole the show in the group stages after upsetting European giants Spain and Bulgaria in their first two games, before going down 1-0 against Paraguay in their last fixture, but that didn’t stop the Super Eagles from topping Group D as the team became very popular in France.
