Waheed Bakare: Buhari mourns as New Telegraph editor dies

The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into the mourning session as a foremost journalist and Saturday Editor of New Telegraph died on Eid-el-Fitr, Sunday, May 24, after a brief illness.
Legit.ng reports that President Muhammadu Buhari in his condolence message commiserated with the media industry, particularly Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), over the passing of Waheed Bakare.
Femi Adesina, the special assistant on media and publicity, said the president sent condolences to the family of the deceased, and management of New Telegraph newspapers.
He described the editor’s death as a collective loss to the media and the nation that he served passionately with his talent.

“President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with the media industry, particularly Nigeria Union of Journalists and Nigeria Guild of Editors, over the passing of the Saturday Editor of New Telegraph, Waheed Bakare.
“The president sends condolences to family of the deceased, and management of New Telegraph Newspapers, describing the editor’s death as a collective loss to the media and the nation that he served passionately with his talent," the statement said.
The president prays that God would receive the soul of the departed, and comfort all that mourn him.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that barely a week after the death of Shehu of Bama, Borno state has lost one of its lawmakers, Umar Audi, who represented Bayo constituency at the state House of Assembly.
It was reported that Audi was reported to have passed away on Tuesday evening, May 5, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The lawmaker was initially rejected because there was no bed space as the health workers claimed the only available space was for any emergency that is childbirth related.
He was later admitted after his family member prevailed over the matter but he gave up shortly after he was admitted for treatment.

In another report, the Emir of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara state, Ahmad Muhammad Asha, also known as Sarkin Kiyawan Kaura Namoda died.
He passed on in the early hours of Sunday, May 3, at the age of 71. His younger brother, Abdulkarim Ahmad Asha, the Dan Jekan Kaura Namoda, said the emir had battled diabetes and hypertension for a long time.
