Governor Matawalle says Zamfara spent N2.9 billion for Ramadan feeding

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has disclosed that his administration spent N2.9 billion in feeding people during the Ramadan period.
Matawalle who made the disclosure on Saturday, May 23, noted that N55.2 million was used to buy 280 cows which were distributed to civil servants, groups and communities during the celebration, The Tribune reports.

He said some textiles were also distributed to 40,000 orphans across the state to enable them to have new dresses for the Sallah celebration.
The governor stated that he also ensured that the ministry of finance started paying workers their salary from May 18 to enable the civil servants prepare for the occasional celebration.
Meanwhile, amid mounting scare over the ban lift on religious and social centres ahead of Sallah, President Muhammadu Buhari and governors on Thursday, May 21, reportedly sealed a five-point deal on the next direction in the fight against coronavirus.
On Friday, May 23, President Buhari and Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) were reported to have met where they agreed that gatherings in mosques or churches and the observance of Eid-el-Fitr prayers will not exceed 50 people at a time.
According to The Nation, the chairman of NGF, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, confirmed meeting with the president and also the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by Rev. Supo Ayokunle.
Fayemi also spoke to the president of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, over the potential relaxation of lockdown and ban lift on religious gathering. The governors, after the meeting, however, maintained that position of NGF on public gathering has not changed and no governor would go against the decision.
In another report, as the world is set to mark another Eid-l-Fitr on Sunday, May 24, Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP) has enjoined Nigerians Muslims to use the sacred period of the festival to pray against leadership failure. Uche Secondus, PDP national chairman, made this call in a special message to the Muslim faithfuls across the country on Saturday, May 23.
He maintained that the thirty-day fasting period will be in vain if the lessons and good conducts during the Holy Months of Ramadan are not extended to other months, Channels TV reports.
