- The Chinese government has made clarifications on its medical experts in Nigeria
- The arrival of the Chinese medics in the country had created controversy among Nigerians as the cases of COVID-19 continue to increase on a daily basis
- According to the Chinese government, the medics were not in Nigeria to treat coronavirus patients
The Chinese government has reacted to the controversy over its medical team who arrived in Nigeria a couple of weeks ago.
Legit.ng reports that the Chinese government declared that the medical practitioners were not in Nigeria to treat the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The clarification was made on Friday, May 22, in a statement posted on its Twitter page @CCECC8, adding that the CRCC medical team has been carrying out its assigned missions after a 14-day quarantine and necessary tests.
The tweet read: "After a 14-day quarantine and necessary tests, the CRCC Medical Team has been carrying out its assigned missions. We hereby briefly report on the current status of the team below."
It disclosed that team's arrival was facilitated by the CCECC Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came hard on the federal government over what it calls denials and cover-up on the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors.
It was reported that the PDP alleged that the government took Nigerians for granted by saying it knew nothing about the whereabouts of the 15-member team of Chinese doctors who arrived in Nigeria in April on a mission to help the country with ways of curbing the spread of coronavirus.
The opposition party called on the federal government to tender an apology to all citizens within a time-frame of two days.
The party asked the Buhari-led administration to be transparent about the many donations given to the government by international and local organisations to help the country deal with the economic effects of the disease.
In another report, amid mounting questions surrounding the whereabouts of a 15-man Chinese medics, the federal government stated that the Chinese are still in Nigeria on a mission to help the country build and equip isolation centres.
Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said that the Chinese medics came to "Nigeria to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”
