Lionel Messi has never played for any other club in his career than Barcelona and the Argentina international has won everything any player can dream of winning at the Cam Nou.

However, Getafe president Angel Torres has explained that his club almost signed Lionel Messi from Barcelona on loan years back.

Torres also explained that he even had a verbal agreement with current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola over him and Lionel Messi joining his side.

He added that he wanted to take advantage of his friendship with former Barcelona president Laporta to lure Lionel Messi to Getafe, but manager Frank Rijkaard blocked the move.

"In the first or second year of Messi we had him almost done to come to Getafe on loan. In the end, Rijkaard did not accept and we were left wanting." Torres told Marca.

Frank Rijkaard later left Barcelona and Lionel Messi went on to win 14 trophies under Pep Guardiola at the Nou Camp.
